Thanksgiving-God’s Love God’s way

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday. It is almost impossible to ignore the fact that people love getting together for this great feast. I believe God made the family to be a very special part of His Creation. We are so privileged to know and serve a God that loves us and showers His mercies on us. I know that people want to get together more and just don’t find the time to do this. I pray that everybody was blessed yesterday to be able to spread the joy of family and to spend a little “down” time with each other. It is a time to reflect on God’s goodness and really from the bottom of our hearts be THANKFULL for all that God has provided us. Too many times we are focusing everything on Jesus and almost nothing on others. The truth is these type of feasts, or dinners are God’s way of showing us we need to love each other. So we must remember that even though Christ should be the centerpiece of every table. The Scripture that I am trying to actually teach is in 1 John 4:10 “If someone says, I LOVE GOD, but hates another Christian, that person is a liar, for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we have not seen?”
To demonstrate how much God loves people look at Matthew chapter 5:46 “If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.” I am thinking that if God didn’t have this mentality this type of love NONE of us would be saved! This is why I am thankful for this special day when God’s love through His Holy Spirit loves the unlovable!
I hope and pray to learn more and more about this unconditional love as I go through 2010 with my friends and family. What a wonderful target for the redeemed. To love even our enemies! Now for some… it is time to go out and loose some weight….those Butterball Turkey’s and Pumpkin pies are hard to carry around the rest of the year and some of us didn’t get rid of last years yet!

There are many in our church family that are thankful for the sacrifices your family has mad to follow God’s will. We have witnessed first hand a small induction of what you live with every day. May God bless you as He continues to work through you and your family while you are serving Him.
